so as a side project tonight i decided to [finally] make a set of headphones that are only a foot long. i consistently find myself wishing that my earphones aren’t as long as they are. i have an ipod shuffle (new 2nd gen. square one) that i usually clip onto my lapel; but of course that leaves about a million feet of cord dangling down the front of my shirt which then gets tangled into the things i’m working on.
[long story]
anywho, i started by cutting up some old earphones [duh], and then tried to solder the wires back onto the speakers. well, i ended up breaking my soldering iron’s tip (the new fangled ColdHeat kind with the cement tip that costs a zillion bucks) {TTI1}.
next idea: just twist the wires together. great idea but i have no wires left on the speaker as i tore them of to solder new ones on {TTI2}. i then cut up another pair of old headphones. with new speakers (with wires on them) i began twisting.
hummmmm, maybe i have to have both speakers hooked up before it’ll work; twisting….
still nothing.
INTERNET to the rescue. http://www.headwize.com/faqs.htm told me that i need to burn off the laquer coating covering the wires and preventing the twisting from working.
alcohol + zippo lighter = burnt wires
now i can’t remember which wire went were {TTI3}.
as of right now i semi-sorta-almost have the left earbud working, but still not a sound from the right earbud.
total {TTI} count so far is 3.
